Formerly the 19^th century slaughterhouse buildings Market Street, and adjacent Duke Street, have been extensively redeveloped and refurbished to provide a traditional shopping area with 11 independently run businesses offering floor coverings, printing & embroidery services and clothing, beauty therapies, second hand books, haberdashery and an ice cream parlour along with pavement cafes on the pedestrianised street.

The street also houses the Market Tavern public house, open throughout the day and evenings.
